Disabled man injured in Leith attack

A disabled man was injured after he was attacked from behind and robbed in the early hours of the morning.

The 53-year-old victim with mobility problems was grabbed and thrown to the ground in Leith before money was taken from his wallet.

He suffered “minor injuries” in the incident on Saturday [August 6] at 145 am on Balfour Place.

The suspect is a clean-shaven white male, 5ft 4ins tall with a thin build, chubby face, and short brown hair.

A 49-year-old woman was also robbed later the same say as she entered the Newkirkgate Shopping Centre from Leith Walk.

She took her purse out of her handbag as she used the Bank of Scotland cash machine and was then barged into by the suspect who grabbed it before running away past Farmfoods.

He is described as being a white male, between 16 and 17 years old and between 5ft4 and 5ft6.

He had a slim build, short mousey brown hair, and was wearing blue tracksuit with white stripes down both legs and white trainers.

Detective Sergeant Mark Lumsden of Gayfield CID said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed either incident and would ask anyone with information to contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone who recognises the description of either suspect and can help identify them should also come forward.

“Police Scotland does not believe these incidents are linked. However, we are keeping an open mind about this.”
