A WOMAN was caught drink-driving as she headed home from a fancy dress party – while dressed as a prisoner.

Kelly Skellet, 22, told police who stopped her that she had drunk six vodkas, the last one just 20 minutes before she got behind the wheel.

She was fined £400 and banned from driving for 16 months after admitting the offence at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. She was also ordered to attend an education course.

Sheriff Gordon Liddle heard that Skellet, of Grove Street in Fountainbridge, was stopped in Murrayburn Road after attending the Hallowe’en party on November 3.

Defence agent Andrew Houston told the court: “She thought the 20 minutes that had passed was enough.”

And as he told how she was dressed as a convict, he added: “At least it gave the police a laugh.”

Passing sentence today, Sheriff Liddle told Skellet: “Younger people think they are invincible and they are not. You could have killed someone.”
