A SUSPECTED drink-driver who was found hiding in a loft after eluding police is one of more than a dozen offenders snared by officers during a crackdown over the Christmas holidays.
Lothian and Borders Police arrested 16 offenders for drink-driving over the festive period. Nationally 131 were detected as part of the ACPOS campaign.
During one incident at around 1.35am on December 30, officers saw a Ford Transit van driver in Portobello not wearing his seatbelt and signalled him to stop.
He briefly made off, before getting out his vehicle and heading on foot to a nearby house. He was eventually found hiding in a loft and was found to be over the limit.
Police discovered the suspect had a pending case for a similar offence, detained him and have applied to seize his van.
