Drop-in session aiming to recruit more foster carers

CHILDREN in the Capital need 30 new foster carers to cope with an increase in demand.

As part of its drive to recruit more foster carers, the city council is to hold a drop-in session so people can find out more about the role.

The event, which will take place on Thursday, will give potential candidates the chance to speak to those who currently perform the role.

Day carers and respite carers will also be on hand to talk about how they work to help children stay with their families in challenging times.

The number of children in foster care in Scotland is at its highest since 1981, with 30 new carers needed in Edinburgh to look after children from birth to 18 years old.

The council pays and trains carers to perform the role, and is running an ongoing campaign to recruit more people to carry out the service.

Anyone interested in becoming a carer can attend the event, at Waverley Court, between 5pm and 7pm on Thursday, or call 0800-174 833.

Foster Care Fortnight is under way and runs until May 27.
