FORMER Hibs star Garry O’Connor, who faced a possible jail sentence after dodging community service, is now turning up for unpaid work in a community allotment.

The 30-year-old striker was sentenced to 200 hours after being caught with a Class A drug two years ago.

Last month, he was fined £500 and warned he could go to prison after he failed to carry out the work.

But now O’Connor, of Longniddry, East Lothian, is helping at Ormiston Grows, a community-run business which grows and sells organic vegetables.

It is just 500 yards from the Hibs’ practice ground where he used to train.
