A DRUNK party-goer challenged police officers to a street fight – dressed only in his underpants.

Stephen Dixon, 23, was among a group of people spotted walking in the middle of the road following the party, but took offence to the officers when they approached him.

Dixon, of Prestonpans, was wearing just his Y-fronts and shouted to police to “come on then” but soon ran off as the PCs approached him.

Dixon was found a short distance away, where he continued to struggle violently with the officers before launching into a homophobic rant.

Solicitor Colm Dempsey told Haddington Sheriff Court that his client’s behaviour was due to him “struggling to cope” after the break-up of a long-term relationship.

Dixon admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and challenging police officers to fight, resisting arrest, struggling violently with officers and shouting homophobic remarks in Prestonpans in August last year during the court appearance yesterday.

Sheriff Peter Braid ordered Dixon to carry 120 hours of unpaid work, and placed him on offenders’ supervision requirement for a year. Two separate offences were also admitted by Dixon and sentence was deferred until March.
