Edinburgh set for sun-kissed weekend

A SUN-SOAKED Capital is set to enjoy continued warm conditions through the weekend, weather watchers have revealed.

Parts of Edinburgh were a bit overcast yesterday, although temperatures of 22C (71F) were recorded at an observation station in Gogarbank.

Forecasters are warning the mercury will drop slightly over the coming days, but it will be a sunny weekend for most.

A Met Office spokesman said: “The weekend will be a bit less warm, as rather than 22C we’re going to see between 13C and 18C.

“There will be almost wall-to-wall sunshine, though.”

Sunday will be dry with plenty of sunshine for 27,000 runners taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon, although temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler than they have been over the last few days.

The weather has resulted in burgers, lollies and cider flying off the shelves in supermarkets.

The record temperature for the month in Scotland is 29C, which was set in the Capital in 1992.

The average in Edinburgh for late May is between 14C and 16C, according to the Met Office.
