Edinburgh Weather: Fresh cold snap to hit Lothians

EDINBURGH was bracing itself for yet more weather misery, with gale force winds, possible flooding and plunging temperatures.

Jonathan Hunter, a spokesman for the Met Office, said tomorrow’s mild start would be followed by more wet and windy weather coming in from the west.

He said: “A yellow weather warning is for wind is valid from 3am on until 9pm on Thursday, with South westerly gales, with potential gusts reaching between 60 or 70 mph.”

He added: “The public should be aware that rain combined with the thaw of lying snow should bring a risk of localised flooding.

“We advise taking care when driving because of standing water and spray and to leave longer for journeys.”

On Friday, the cold snap is due to return, with temperatures hovering just above freezing for most of the day.

No weather warnings are expected but the cold weather is likely to continue over the weekend.

Mr Hunter said there was a potential for snow, particularly on higher areas and temperatures would struggle to get above one degree.

Saturday will also remain cold, around two degrees, with some winter sunshine.

Mr Hunter said the cold conditions would continue into Sunday but would start to get warmer on Monday.
