A PRIMARY school been transformed after a new £3 million extension was opened.

St Anthony’s Primary in Armadale now has two extra classrooms, a new gym, a general purpose room and a learning support base.

A further six classrooms are planned in the next phase of the development.

The development has also seen a new access road created on the south side of the school, a new main entrance and reception area and extra playground space.

The extension was officially opened by West Lothian Council’s education leader Lawrence Fitzpatrick during a ceremony featuring piper Ross McWilliam and performances by the school’s choir.

Councillor Fitzpatrick, a former pupil of St Anthony’s, said: “I’m delighted to declare this £3m extension to St Anthony’s Primary in Armadale open.

The additional space will help the school grow and ensure it can cater for the increasing demand as the town of Armadale continues to expand.

“The new gym hall and classrooms in particular are excellent, and will boost the learning environment.”
