AN ELDERLY man has been taken to hospital after being knocked down by a car in Leith.
The pedestrian is understood to have been walking near the Asda superstore in Lindsay Road when the incident took place earlier today.
The road was closed in both directions for several hours, but has now reopened.
Ambulance staff were on the scene, and the man was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment. His condition is not known.
Lothian Buses have re-routed the number 11 and number 16 as a result of the road closure.
Sergeant Ross Drummond said: “Police in Edinburgh responded to a road traffic collision involving an elderly male pedestrian and a Kia Picanto car.
“The incident happened around 1.15pm on Wednesday, December 17, on Lindsay Road.
“Road Policing Officers and the Scottish Ambulance Service are currently in attendance and the road is closed.
“Anyone who has information that can assist officers with their investigation into this collision is asked to come forward.”
