Emergency services are at Straiton Retail Park after an accident in the car park outside the Marks and Spencer store around 12:30 on Christmas Eve.

Eyewitnesses report hearing "a bang" as one car crashed into numerous parked vehicles

Evelyn Alemamie told the Edinburgh Evening News: " I was coming out of M&S and I heard a loud bang"

"I saw an elderly woman being helped out of her a car which had the airbags out, in the car park."

She added: "Traffic is really backed up, it's bad."

Another witness said: "I think a silver Toyota rav 4 type SUV went out of control in the main lane round the car park and hit several motors before coming to a halt.

"One lady was lying in the tarmac when we arrived but she was sitting talking to paramedics about ten minutes later. There is a man in a car that was hit who is being treated for shock.

"The place was already pandemonium before the accident t. It looks like the car has hit others and possibly shunted one into the woman pedestrian.

"Police and paramedics are here...it's the last thing you want to see when out Christmas shopping and I hope no one was badly hurt."

Paramedics, police and the fire service are in attendance.

A police spokesman said: "Police Scotland were called to a report of a crash at the Straiton Retail Park in Edinburgh at 12:35 on Tuesday 24 December.

"Police and ambulances are in attendance. There does not appear to be any injuries"
