PHILADELPHIA’S premiere rock n roll outfit, Low Cut Connie cross the Atlantic for the first time this month for an eight-stop tour of the United Kingdom that brings them to the Voodoo Rooms on Saturday.

Not heard of them? Well, Low Cut Connie have proved popular in the US thanks to their raw and soulful ‘sex-positive’ rock n roll.

Their first single Revolution Rock n Roll, their cover of Prince’s Controversy and their latest single Dirty Water have now been spun by over 170 stations.

Described as ‘bridging the gap between saloon singers and barroom rockers’ their performances have been likened to ‘Frank Sinatra fronting The Replacements’ and just this month they received official approval from Elton John, who said “I love that so much” while listening to them on Beats 1 Radio.

Recently called ‘the essence of what rock n roll should be’ , Low Cut Connie have been a rolling DIY caravan with an explosive live act bubbling under the surface of the music industry for the last five years.

Building an obsessive fanbase from all walks of life - white and black, straight and gay, young and old, salty lunatics of every persuasion.

Even former President Barack Obama is reputed to be a fan - he chose their anthem of low-brow American life Boozophilia for his Spotify Playlist and met with the band’s Adam Weiner at the White House in 2016.

But with the album Dirty Pictures (part 1), Low Cut Connie moved beyond the drunken bar boogie they had become associated with into a deeper, darker, dirtier American life.

“We’ve been thought of as a great party band by so many people, and we wear that as a badge of honour, but I really wanted to go deeper with this record,” Weiner says.

“Rock n roll... Nothing moves people more. It’ll make the most unsuspecting citizen hot, horny, angry, weepy and emotional and ultimately open to life like never before. I’ve seen it happen. That’s what we do. We change the molecules in the room.”
