COMEDIAN Bec Hill has married on stage at the Fringe, in the same venue where her groom proposed three years ago.
Gavin Innes popped the question at the Gilded Balloon as his wife-to-be interacted with the audience. According to the comedy website Chortle, Australian Hill asked the audience what they would do if they were mugged and Innes put up his hand from the back of the room and said ‘I’d propose’. He then came on stage and asked her to marry him.
Yesterday, they returned to the venue for their wedding with even the minister having a comedy connection - he is the father of Tom Crowley of sketch trio Sad Faces.
The Fringe-themed wedding saw Hill’s wedding bouquet made from 50-100 flyers, invites were sent out on Gilded Balloon tickets, and her wedding confetti was ticket stubs. Bridesmaids included comedians Andrea Hubert, Brydie Lee-Kennedy and Abigoliah Schaumaun.
Hill and Innes met in 2008 when he was working front of house on her show.
Karen Koren, who is artistic director of the Gilded Balloon, said the event had been a “real Fringe wedding”.
“Bec’s family had flown from Australia to be part of the biggest arts festival in the world and enjoy a wedding. It was a wonderful day filled with friends, family and festival favourites.”
