THE Capital’s newest music festival got off to a rocking start earlier this week when veteran crooner and star of The Voice Tom Jones wowed the Ross Bandstand.
One down, five to go. DF Concerts return to Edinburgh this Festival bring some of the biggest acts on the music scene to Princes Street Gardens.
Tonight it is the turn of Bastille with their special guests The Vaccines and Retro Video Club followed on Tuesday, 14 August, by Rag’N’Bone Man, supported by Grace Carter and The LaFontaines.
Bastille’s first Scottish headline show was at Glasgow’s ABC2, the 350-capacity venue in the heart of Sauchiehall Street, while Rag‘N’Bone Man’s first Scottish appearance also came in Glasgow, at the 200-capacity Broadcast.
It is safe to say that things have changed a fair bit since then, with both now set to perform in front of thousands of adoring fans, their rise to the top of the bill will no doubt serve as a welcome inspiration for up-and-coming musicians.
Next Friday, 17 August, it is the turn of Paloma Faith to headline. She too has enjoyed a similar rise to the top since releasing her debut album back in 2009.
Saturday, 18 August, finds Kasabian playing their first Edinburgh gig for four years and it is safe to say Capital fans have been missing the Leicester lads.
Kasabian are the most experienced band on the line-up in terms of taking to the stage in Edinburgh having treated the city to their incredible indie-rock on many occasions, most notably supporting Oasis on their final tour at Murrayfield Stadium.
Finally, if it is good vibrations you are looking for then be in the Gardens on 19 August, for some summer California surf sounds courtesy of Brian Wilson.
With one of the most iconic sounds in music history, Wilson, the driving force behind the Beach Boys, brings their incomparable sound to the capital.
Wilson will be performing their iconic 1966 album Pet Sounds in full, an album so ingrained in pop music history, it was said to be the inspiration behind the Beatles’ classic Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
