FOR three days, from today, the grounds of the Royal Highland Centre at Ingliston are set to undergo a transformation in an explosion of scent and colour when Gardening Scotland, the national gardening and outdoor living show and Scotland’s gardening festival, takes over the show ground.
The biggest plant fair in the country opens tomorrow and runs until Sunday, promising to provide everything from an abundance of beautiful plants to tools, equipment, garden furniture and all the inspiration you could need to make your garden grow.
Now in its 18th year, the event is not only for gardeners and horticultural enthusiasts, it offers a fun day out for all the family, with children under 16 going free.
Up to 35,000 gardeners of all ages and abilities are expected to flock to Ingliston this weekend to meet some of the UK’s top specialist nurseries and growers exhibiting on the 125 metre Floral Walkway.
The event’s eight show gardens and college gardens will inspire gardeners and non-gardeners alike, exemplifying the latest and highest quality in innovation, design and plant quality.
Gardening Scotland is not just for adults and garden lovers. Children are sure to be kept well-entertained at the Big Back Garden area, which will provide a host of activities including treasure hunts, games, music, birds of prey, bouncy castles and face painting. There will also be sunflower planting, pallet garden competitions and lots of play activities.
2017’s Gardening Scotland will also have a real focus on gastronomic as well as gardening delights.
Check in at the Cookery Theatre and pick up culinary tips from talented chefs such as Neil Forbes of Café St Honore or Dimitrios Tsistrakis La Cucina from the Fairmont in St Andrews.
Martin Dare, Gardening Scotland’s Show Organiser says, “If you thought that Gardening Scotland was just for seasoned gardeners, then hopefully we have convinced you otherwise.
“The event is all about embracing your outside space whatever your gardening knowledge or your age.”
