Get your Geek on for 90's Gameshow fun

THE organisers of Edinburgh's Geek and Nerd Festival turn their attention to the world of TV gameshows in the city's most haunted pub, on Friday.

A special event - ahead of the main festival in July - finds a panel of comedians battling it out to be the king or queen of nostalgia at the Banshee Labyrinth in The Great Big 90’s Gameshow.

The show is the idea of Ash Pryce who has been staging monthly events of horror and geek themes in the city for almost a decade.

He says, “As we lead up to this year’s Geek and Nerd Festival, we wanted to throw open the doors to an all round nerdy experience, and with 90’s nostalgia in vogue, it seemed like an appropriate topic”

The Edinburgh Geek and Nerd Festival is one of the newer additions to Edinburgh’s constantly growing festival scene, and is set to take place at the Banshee Labyrinth early in July.

“Last year we ran over Star Wars weekend, but this year we’re running just before the Fringe kicks off,” explains Pryce.

In the meantime, The Great Big 90’s Gameshow, which packs in the usual odd one outs and general knowledge rounds, but also throws in improv, retro video gaming, forfeits and even a charades round will feature Shona White, Alex Staniforth, Danov Valravn and Isla MacLean.

“We’re very excited to have this line up, Isla is co creator of Bitch Night variety night. Danov is a spoken word artist, Alex is best known as the originator of stand-up Horror and Shona is part of the local improv scene”

A screening of 90s retro movies the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Street Fighter and Demolition Man will follow the main event.
