SEVENTIES America loved The Gong Show when it first appeared on TV screens there. A talent show, the premise was simple, you went on and did your act until the judges had enough of it and ‘gonged’ you off.
Sound familiar? There’s really nothing new on TV. Over at The Shack on Rose Street, run by Jojo Sutherland, pictured, Edinburgh’s very own version of the Gong Show has been been keeping audiences entertained come a Thursday evening.
Every week Scotland’s newest up-and-coming comics get their chance to beat the clock and try to last a full five minutes - which is more difficult than it sounds. At The Shack it’s audience members who decide who should stay and who should go.
The winner from tonight’s show will join previous winners (the show has been running since the start of the year) in one of two semi-finals on July 19 and 26, with the grand final staged on August 26.
So join host Chris Conroy and get ready to gong... or better still, take part and get ready to be gonged.
