ON Saturday, Canada turns 150 years old and to mark the historic day, local independent craft brewer Innis and Gunn have created a limited edition beer called Maple and Thistle.
The specially curated limited-edition barrel-aged beer unites the famous icons of the two nations, the Canadian maple and the Scottish thistle.
Described as a smooth amber ale with a rich backbone that boasts the big bold flavours of maple, toffee and vanilla, the brew will be available from the online Innis & Gunn shop as well as in The Innis & Gunn Beer Kitchen, Lothian Road.
The Kitchen will also host a Canada themed-party on Saturday, at which Canadian nationals and their friends will receive a 15 per cent discount on all food.
Dougal Gunn Sharp, founder and master brewer at Innis & Gunn, says, “Canada has always had a special place in our hearts as it was the first export market for us back in 2005.
“We have an enthusiastic following amongst Canadian craft drinkers who love the rich flavour and quality in our beers.
“We couldn’t let the Canada Day 150-year milestone pass without creating something special for our friends in Canada to enjoy.
“I also hope Canadians who are in Scotland on the occasion will join us in the Beer Kitchen to raise a toast together.”
Canada Day takes place on Saturday celebrating of uniting the three colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.
Canada Day celebrations take place throughout the country, as well as in various locations around the world. The Innis & Gunn Beer Kitchen has been selected by the Canadian High Commission as one of only 150 bars in the UK to participate in The Official 150th Canada Day celebrations.
