Jonathan Melville: Films well worth seeing - Honest

Have your say

“PREPARE for a film that only exists so non-nerds will recognise the blonde guy in The Avengers!” So shouts the trailer for the latest Marvel effort, Thor. Or rather, so shouts the Honest Trailer for the film, which went live this week.

“You’ve seen great superhero films, you’ve seen terrible superhero films. Now, prepare for a superhero film that’s just kinda...meh,” it continues, summing up the feelings of most superhero fans who still aren’t too sure why Thor has his own franchise.

Created by the team at, Honest Trailers focus on ridiculous moments from actual trailers or finished films and makes them selling points, adding a semi-serious voiceover that makes them almost seem genuine.

Pacific Rim also gets the Honest Trailer treatment: “From Guillermo del Toro, the Latino Peter Jackson, comes a completely original sci-fi universe that doesn’t rely on any pre-existing franchise...unless you count Transformers, Ultraman, Power Rangers, Godzilla...” - you get the idea.

World War Z and Star Trek Into Darkness are more of the films covered, while a few classics such as Jurassic Park also make an appearance. The latter is picked on, thanks to the recent 3D re-release: “This April, Steven Spielberg invites you to travel back to a time before every movie was needlessly converted to 3D... Jurassic Park, now needlessly converted to 3D!”

Every one is worth three minutes of your time - they’re usually more entertaining than the full-length movie. So if you haven’t had a chance to catch-up on the recent summer blockbusters, it’s worth heading to and spending some time there.

Be warned, you’ll never look at the films the same way again.
