SHAKESPEARE under the stars, that’s the offer from the students of Queen Margaret University who stage an open-air production of the classic As You Like It in Musselburgh and Edinburgh later this week.

The performing arts students from Queen Margaret University have put a contemporary twist on Shakespeare’s pastoral comedy.

First published in 1623, As You Like It follows Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncle’s court, accompanied by her cousin Celia.

She finds safety and eventually love in the Forest of Arden, where the group encounter a variety of memorable characters.

These include melancholy traveller Jaques who speaks many of Shakespeare’s most famous speeches including All the world’s a stage...

More than 40 students from across QMU’s Performing Arts programmes are working with staff to create a truly magical evening of theatre.

The production opens in the grounds of QMU’s Musselburgh campus tomorrow evening before transferring to Dunbar’s Close Gardens on the Royal Mile.

Directed and designed by Kate Nelson, Sarah Paulley and Polly Lister, the production features music by Jeremy Devlin-Thorp.

Audience members are invited to bring along a picnic before seeing the shows and light refreshments will be made available.

As shows will be performed regardless of the weather, audiences are advised to come prepared.
