ON Sunday, the man billed as the ‘World’s No 1 Elvis’ aims to leave the Playhouse all shook up.
Direct from the USA, the world’s most successful Elvis tribute artist Shawn Klush returns to the UK in a production that features Elvis’ original backing singers, The Sweet Inspirations.
The Sweet Inspirations toured with Elvis from his first season in Las Vegas in 1969 until his death in 1977.
Original member Estelle Brown, now 71, recalls, “Working with Elvis was indescribable. It was absolutely fantastic and he was the perfect gentleman. He was just a humble guy, a really wonderful person.
“We used to say ‘Hey boss, hey boss’ but he’d say, ‘I’m not your boss, I’m your brother’. That’s how he was; we became a family.
“Just as people loved Elvis, Elvis loved people. That was his life.
“Shawn is the closest that anyone will ever get to him. I’m not saying he’s exactly Elvis, but he’s as close as anyone will ever get. We have a wonderful time working together.”
Shawn himself first exploded onto the UK scene when he was crowned The World’s Greatest Elvis, live on BBC One.
Soon after, Shawn was crowned the first ever Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Champion in Memphis, Tennessee. Safe to say then, this man is the real deal.
On the back of his success, Shawn embarked on an unprecedented world tour and currently performs annually at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas on the very stage Elvis himself performed on.
At the Playhouse, Shawn and The Sweet Inspirations will be backed by a live band and orchestra.
For the Capital’s Elvis fans it doesn’t get any better than this. By the end of the evening, you really will believe that Elvis has just left the building.
