Jackhammer Pres. DJ Hell

Thirty years and going strong, DJ Hell is still firing out releases. He was one of the original R & S artists, who alongside Juan Atkins (Model 500), Aphex Twin and CJ Bolland did more for modern electronic music than the current top ten DJ poll. His famous track, ‘My Definition of house music’ was an instant hit. Tongue firmly pressed in cheek, he created a bass heavy warehouse floor throbber with a thundering piano score and orchestrated sections - sampled from David Byrne’s Ava. These days he still does techno with a few cheeky reworks to raise an eyebrow or two.

Friday, 1st Feb, The Annexe, Cowgate, 10.30pm – 3am, £5/10

SUPERSONIC VAGUE – Headphone Party

We’ve not seen one of these in a while, but headphone parties are always a blast - and oddly surreal when you lift the head phones off in a silent room. DJ Gentleman Jonny spins a mash-up of electro-house, indie, r n’ b and dub step.

Friday, 1st Feb, HMV Picture House, Lothian Rd, 11pm – 3am, £4/5
