Have your say

A LITLE bit of fizz is generally a winning start to any Festival evening and as the doors to La Hispaniola on Drummond Street open, the idea of a Champagne Cabaret is just the ticket.

La Hispaniola, Drummond Street

Guests take their seats to find a sheet listing the sparkling wines that will be served, with space to add tasting notes as you go. The audience is welcomed by the ‘songelliers’, Sarah, Jessie and Catriona, who have paired the wines not with food, but with an eclectic mix of songs and stories. It’s a simple but effective conceit. The songs, for the most part beautifully sung, have varying degrees of connection with the subject at hand, champagne, taking in Brel, Tom Waits, Oasis, Queen and the Drifters among others, interspersed with short narrative vignettes.

A bubbly dose of early evening fun.
