STARS of stage and TV have paid tribute to Leith actor Ricky Callan who died yesterday morning after a long battle with type 2 diabetes.
From Penicuik originally, Ricky lost half a leg and developed kidney problems as a result of the condition.
He TV credits included Taggart, Still Game, Monarch of the Glen and Rab C Nesbitt. He was also a familiar voice on Castle FM.
Taking to Facebook, Still Game star Gavin Mitchell posted, “Such heartbreaking news... Such a warm, funny and lovely man, who even through all his struggles kept his sense of humour and his generosity of spirit.”
Local film director Craig-James Moncur, wrote “The world has lost one of its genuine good guys. A man who always had a story to tell and a smile to share.”
Though his later years were difficult, Ricky never lost his desire to make people laugh, writing, “If I can make people forget about the shi**y stuff for a wee while through laughter and cuddles, then I’ll leave this world hopefully being remembered for that, and the fact that I’ve been told that I make a nice cake as well.”
