THE brother of a Hibs star who was found dead 30 years ago says he still refuses to believe he took his own life.

Erich Schaedler’s body was discovered in his car in the Borders on December 27, 1985. His death was ruled as a suicide.

His brother John, who was the last person to see him alive, reportedly said in an interview: “There are so many unanswered questions and things that don’t add up.”

Mr Schaedler said their mother received suspicious phone calls telling her something had happened to Erich.

He also claims he was warned off investigating his brother’s death with the chilling message: “I don’t want to hear about you being found dead in a ditch.”

Mr Schaedler said: “He wasn’t in debt and there was nothing untoward in his love life, as far as I know. He was coming to the end of the career, but he would have made it as a trainer.

“Erich wouldn’t have been on the scrapheap. It’s a terrible thing not knowing what happened to Erich. Sadly, I don’t think we will ever get to the truth.”
