Estate broken up for sale

The sale of Scotland’s most expensive country pad, the £22.5 million Spott Estate, has been broken up to attract more prospective buyers.

The 2500-acre East Lothian estate, near Dunbar, has been on the market since February last year.

Edinburgh agent Knight Frank is offering the main stately home, stables and 48 acres of land for offers over £3.2m. However, the whole estate is still available.

The entire estate, owned by the Danish industrialist Lars Foghsgaard, also contains a farmhouse; 14 cottages; modern and traditional farm buildings and 1800 acres of mixed farming land.

Oliver Cromwell is reputed to have stayed at the house during the second Battle of Dunbar in 1650.
