Evans faces assault trial

Scotland rugby player Max Evans is to face trial charged with hitting a man with a glass at a city nightclub.

The 28-year-old star is accused of assaulting Alasdair McCaig at Lulu nightclub in George Street in August 2010.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court, he continued his plea of not guilty to the charge that he struck Mr McCaig on the face with a glass to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment.

A hearing will be held on November 7 to debate outstanding legal issues. Evans, who plays for French side Castres, had his bail continued.
