At the 33rd annual Scottish Press Awards ceremony, held in Glasgow last night, our sister paper, The Scotsman, was named Newspaper of the Year, winning praise from the panel of judges for “spades of debate” involving many different voices.

Bill Jamieson, who was executive editor with The Scotsman for 11 years until his retirement last month, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement award for his “outstanding contribution” to Scottish journalism.

Aidan Smith won two awards for his work on The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday. He was named Sports Feature Writer of the Year and also Arts and Entertainment Journalist of the Year.

Stephen Emerson, of scotsman.com, was runner-up in the Website/Digital Product of the Year section.

The panel of judges was chaired by former Lord Advocate Dame Elish Angiolini.
