FORMER Hearts and Scotland star Kevin Kyle is working on an oil rig accommodation vessel earning £400 a week.

At his peak, the striker earned £10,000 a week after signing for Rangers.

Kyle, whose career was beset with injury problems and a serious gambling problem, stacks boxes and cleans toilets on the former ferry Regina Baltica.

At one time he admitted to blowing £7000 a week at the bookies.

Late on in his career he gave up his time to warn youngsters about the dangers of gambling.

The vessel, which is a floating hotel for oil industry workers, is moored at Lerwick.

Kevin left his last club, Ayr United, earlier this year and now works for caterers Sodexo since the beginning of the month.

A fellow worker on the vessel described Kevin as “a good lad” and said everyone got on with him

He said: “He has no problems with his new job saying that he is simply trying to put ‘food on the table’ for his family, wife Lynn and children Max, Harry and Danny.”
