THE former chief executive of Historic Scotland, who quit after a turbulent 30 months in charge, has been handed a £300,000 pay-off – nearly three times her annual salary.

Ruth Parsons, 51, had a 30-year civil service career and was appointed to head Scotland’s heritage quango in 2009.However, her time in charge was marred by staff allegations of bullying.

Historic Scotland said no formal complaints were lodged, but a string of senior staff decided to leave the organisation after she took over the helm.
