Family tell of torment over death of new dad

THE partner of a new dad who died in Spain has told of the family’s heartache as they search for answers over his mystery death.

Chris Lindsay vanished while on holiday with colleagues on the Costa del Sol and was later found with severe injuries.

Doctors believe the 34-year-old marketing worker was the victim of a savage assault.

Today, his heartbroken partner Vikki Solomon, from East Craigs, said his death had left the family bereft, and she hoped fellow holidaymakers who were in the resort of Calahonda may be able to help piece together what happened.

Ms Solomon, 30, said: “We just can’t believe it. We’re just all numb now. I think we’ve been through every emotion every day. I think some answers would help us, just give us a little a bit more peace.”

Mr Lindsay had been having drinks with his colleagues from the Marketing Company in Glasgow on Saturday, October 1, when he became separated from them. The next his family heard was when Ms Solomon received a call from a Spanish hospital on Tuesday, October 4, to tell her he was in a critical condition.

Mr Lindsay’s father Harry and his brother flew out to be with him in hospital but he died of liver failure on Friday.

Ms Solomon said: “On Tuesday morning I got a phone call saying he was in hospital in Spain and that he was critical and we had to get out there. I was shocked, I didn’t believe it.

“The doctor had said that he could die at any time, and we needed to get out there straight away. We don’t know how he got to hospital, all we know is that he went out with work colleagues on Saturday night and then on Tuesday morning we got the phone call.

“We are in the dark as to who took him to hospital, how he got there, what his injuries were when he was first admitted, what happened to make his condition deteriorate.

“We don’t know where he was from Saturday night until he went to the hospital which we think was Monday. We need to know if anybody saw him, who he was with, if he was on his own. We just need to try to piece this together to get some answers.”

Ms Solomon said her partner had been working hard to provide for their son Jude, who is three months old.

She said: “Chris was working to try to build a future for us and it’s all been taken away. We have been left with nothing and we have got no answers. I still can’t get my head around it. We all talked ourselves into believing it was all going to be OK, that he was going to pull through, and we still can’t believe it.”

A post-mortem has been carried out in Spain but the family have yet to be told of the results. Doctors told them that Mr Lindsay had been attacked but the official cause of death is liver failure. His body will be flown home next week, although a judge ruled it must be buried, not cremated.

His father Harry said: “The doctor said he reckons he had been attacked but he couldn’t then say that was the cause of death. They have to wait until they’ve done some more exploring to find exactly what the cause of death was.

“Knowing that you’ve lost your son, there’s no words could explain how I feel.”
