Firefighters tackle factory inferno in Cowdenbeath

A blaze tore through a factory in Fife this morning sending a thick plume of smoke soaring above the Forth.

About 30 firefighters were scrambled shortly before 8am as the inferno took hold.

Commuters into the Capital faced delays with traffic backed up as a pall of black smoke drifted across the Queensferry Crossing.

Group Manager David Sharp said: “We were alerted at 7.59am on Tuesday, August 6 to reports of a fire within a business premises at Woodend Industrial Estate, Cowdenbeath.

“Operations Control mobilised seven fire appliances to the scene, where our crews extinguished the fire which had taken hold within a single-storey vehicle workshop.

“There were no reported casualties.

“We would like to thank our crews and partners for their support in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion.”

GM Sharp added: “A single appliance currently remains at the scene to monitor for any remaining hotspots.”
