A FORMER university lecturer will be ordained tonight as the first of a new type of Church of Scotland minister.

Dr Fiona Tweedie, who taught statistics at Edinburgh Universities, will become the Kirk’s first “Ordained Local Minister” (OLM) at a service in Barclay Viewforth Church, Bruntsfield.

OLMs will be deployed by presbyteries in part-time posts. Dr Tweedie will serve as unpaid mission facilitator and researcher across the city.
