Fishing crew finds ‘mine’

A SUSPECTED mine was found in the sea off Port Seton at around 4am today

The object, which was described by a Coastguard spokesman as being “cylindrical with prongs on it”, was found by a fishing crew, who marked it with a buoy around a mile and a half off the coast.

A bomb disposal crew from HM Naval Base Clyde was this morning travelling to Port Seton to inspect the device and consider what further action to take. A Coastguard spokesman said: “It’s not obvious that it is a mine, it could be something else that’s rusted up, but we have to be on the safe side.”
