FORMER Death Row Scot Kenny Richey is fighting back to health after suffering a stroke - by munching on bowls of porridge.

Richey, who was admitted to hospital in Tupelo, Mississippi, last week, joked with friends on social media about recovering his health with the help of the Scottish dish.

His friend Darrin Mcauliffe posted on Facebook: “Get better soon Kenny – get some porridge down the hatch.”

And Richey, 50, originally from Edinburgh, replied: “Thank you everyone. I will droon (myself in porrage Darrin.”

Richey was left partially paralysed down his right side following the life-threatening seizure last Wednesday, but his contact with friends back in Scotland has shown he has not lost his sense of humour.

Asked to get go for a pint in Edinburgh, Richey replied: “Looking forward to that pint. [But] I guess I better learn tae raise a pint with my left arm instead of the right.”

Richey spent 22 years on death row over the death of two-year-old toddler Cynthia Collins in a house fire in Columbus Grove, Ohio, before being freed after a plea deal in 2008.
