Frail man robbed of four figure sum in Gorebridge

AN opportunistic robber targeted an frail man and escaped with at least £1000 of his victim’s cash.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses following the incident, which happened at 12:30pm yesterday in Hunterfield Road, Gorebridge, Midlothian.

The 64-year-old victim, who walks with the aid of a stick, was making his way home having visited the Post Office when a male approached him from behind.

The suspect grabbed the man’s wallet, which was in his back pocket. A struggle ensued before the male pushed the victim aside and made off with the wallet, which police said contained a four-figure sum.

Detective Constable Callum Richardson said: “This was an opportunistic robbery of a man who was viewed as an easy target based on his infirmity.

“Anyone who was on Hunterfield Road around midday on Monday and remembers seeing anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation is also asked to get in touch.”
