KIND-HEARTED Evening News readers have helped smash the target of a fundraiser for a young family who lost everything in a devastating blaze that gutted their home.

Sophie Duffy and Daniel Taylor lost all their belongings while baby Ruby's clothes also went up in smoke in the Whitburn fire at the weekend.

Their caring community rallied round with an online appeal which stood at more than double its £1,000 target this morning.

"I have just gone through the hundreds of messages, posts and comments, including the ones on the go fund me page that I set up this morning to help Daniel Taylor and Sophie Duffy," said Daniel's sister-in-law Kelly Taylor, who launched the GoFundMe page for donations of money and replacement clothes.

"I am sitting here in tears and honestly I have to say our community is an amazing place.

"There are still so many beautiful, kind-hearted, generous souls out there and even people who have nothing have still offered their help and support in other ways.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all my friends, family and community for your generosity.

"You are all absolutely amazing human beings. Lots of love to every single person who reached out to our family.

"You all took the time to help in our time of need and we will never ever forget it."

Anyone wishing to still support the appeal can do so at the GoFundMe page.
