A GAMBLING addict sold non-existent iPhones over the internet to fund his obsession with casino-style slot machines.

Darren O’Mara, 22, set up a web page offering the trendy mobile phones and accessories such as chargers and headphones at wholesale prices.

He duped a woman into sending him thousands of pounds in cash and paying thousands more into betting accounts.

Livingston Sheriff Court heard O’Mara – who was sentenced to nine months in prison yesterday after earlier admitting the charges against him – lost £15,000 in six days in fixed odds betting terminals.

Bosses at William Hill called police because they suspected the large cash transactions breached money-laundering laws and an investigation uncovered the iPhone scam.
