GARBAGE frontwoman Shirley Manson has defended Miley Cyrus, saying she has been treated as the “antichrist” for her risqué dance moves.

The Edinburgh-born rocker, who was in Scotland to collect an outstanding achievement honour at the Scottish Music Awards, compared Miley’s moves with her early days.

Manson, 47, said: “When I was starting out with Garbage in the 1990s, I wore see-through dresses, and I used to grab my crotch and my boobs. Nobody castigated me. But she has been treated like the antichrist.”

She picked up the Innovation Award at the ceremony, known as the Tartan Clefs, where she was reunited with Martin Metcalfe, who was in the band Goodbye Mr Mackenzie with her. It was the first time she had performed with him for 20 years.
