Gardening does good

A COMMUNITY garden project in Midlothian has been hailed for bringing people in the area together.

The Hawthorn Gardens initiative in Loanhead aimed to put a patch of unused land to good use, boosting the physical and psychological health of those involved.

Now, after work by locals and a range of organisation including NHS Lothian and Paradykes Primary school, it has been transformed.

Local GP Dr Lai Fun Russell said: “One of the residents I recently visited said that she had been helping with the garden and had enjoyed it very much.

“I noted that she also seemed much brighter and more mentally alert.”
