Get down and dirty with TV entomologist

A CHANCE to have a rotten time with TV’s bug man Dr George McGavin is being offered by BBC Scotland through a special webcast.

Dr McGavin, who grew up in the Capital and is one of the world’s top entomologists, will answer questions about the science of decay – a process currently on display at Edinburgh Zoo inside a specially constructed rot box.

The experimental box contains a variety of everyday foodstuffs left to decompose over a two-month period, and is being filmed by BBC4 for a 90-minute documentary.

The project launched at the start of August and can be followed online at bbc.co.uk/afterlife.

Dr McGavin’s live webcast from the box will be on September 12 between 11am and 11.40am.

He will also conduct a web chat to answer questions.
