The self-styled spirit hunters examined the attraction in March to see if they could find any trace of the mythical natural sprites.

Spritualist medium Gary Gray and UFO enthusiast Ron Halliday reported seeing globes of coloured light and being “not of this world”.

The pair used dowsing rods to detect hidden energy, and said they were drawn to a ‘portal’ that allowed the fairies to cross between their world an dours.

Halliday said: “There were a number of sites that had what we call powerful psychic vortices - whirls of energy in constant motion that glowed with coloured light.”

Dr Ian Edwards, head of events at the gardens, said visitors had reported feeling “vital energies that emanate from the trees and flowers.”

The findings will be presented at the Scottish UFO and Paranormal Conference in Edinburgh next month.
