THE stress of being unemployed can be relieved by spending time in green space, a study has found.

Researchers at Edinburgh University said creating more parks and woodland in deprived areas may help the mental health of those out of work.

Catharine Ward Thompson, director of the Openspace research centre, said: “Given the increasing levels of stress and poor mental health suffered by people in Scotland, this is an exciting breakthrough.”
