Good show at Bard contest

A PRIMARY pupil has won the Junior Burnsian award for reciting the poetry of Scotland’s Bard at a competition run by the Robert Burns World Federation.

Annie Bowes, a P7 pupil at Dean Park Primary in Balerno, took first prize for best verse speaker for reading lines from Tam O’Shanter at the event held in Aberdeen on Saturday.

The 11-year-old won the schools recital competition in the Capital in March and beat around 20 other contestants to take the top prize.
