Research data gathered by a failed Leith wave energy company has been bought by a Scottish Government agency to enure the intellectual property rights stay in Scotland.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) paid an undisclosed amount for the information and some physical assets - previously owned by Pelamis - after reaching a deal with administrators KPMG.

HIE is acting on behalf of Wave Energy Scotland - a new body set up to support the country’s wave energy sector and fully funded by the Scottish Government.

Energy Minister Fergus Ewing insisted the successful purchase of the intellectual property was “good news for Scotland.”
