A PLANNING bid to build dozens of flats and townhouses on the site of a former telephone exchange in the Grange has been lodged.

An application for planning permission and listed building consent has been issued to develop 60 apartments and 24 townhouses on a four-acre site at the old Woodcroft Telephone Exchange in Pitsligo Road, Merchiston.

The submission follows consultation held with the council, Historic Scotland and the community.

Nigel Reid, of applicant Telereal Trillium, said: “We believe the proposals will help establish a long-term viable future for the redundant telephone exchange site, through the provision of a high-quality residential development in the heart of one of Edinburgh’s finest housing districts.”
