Grant speaks out to support drive to recruit foster carers

A SHORT film narrated by Grant Stott has been produced by city council bosses in a bid to recruit more foster carers.

The DVD, entitled Becoming a Foster Carer with the City of Edinburgh Council, aims to answer questions prospective carers may have, from “how do I become a foster carer?” to “what impact will fostering have on my children?”

The film was written by Hilary Phillips who, along with her family, is a foster carer with the council. She was able to give an insight into how the process of becoming a carer works.

Ms Phillips said: “It’s seven years since we became foster carers, but working on the film has reminded me of some of the big questions that people ask as they are considering fostering.

“The film tries to answer the real questions and provides great information for people at the decision point.

“The interviews with children and young people who have been fostered definitely steal the show.”

City children and families leader Councillor Marilyne MacLaren said: “This film breaks down the barriers that stop people from applying to be foster carers by addressing some of the most common concerns and questions.

“We want to encourage people to take the next step and give us a call, because, like many of the carers in our DVD, it could be the best thing they ever do.”
