Green light for Shore

Plans for a traffic shake-up at the Shore in Leith have been approved by councillors.

The city council has unveiled plans for £560,000 of improvements to the area, alongside banning traffic from one side of the Shore, which was once Scotland’s main trading port.

The upgrade will include wider pavements, trees at the side of the road, improvements to the Shore/Henderson Gardens junction and granite bollards.

Planners hope the changes will make the Shore more attractive to visitors, while encouraging businesses to take advantage of “cafe culture”.

The action came after campaigning by local councillor Marjorie Thomas, who is the city’s licensing leader.
