Harbour gets hooks into £250k loan

AN off-shore breakwater and significant engineering work are some of the improvements destined for Dunbar Harbour after bosses secured a £250,000 council loan.

The money, which will be administered by Dunbar Harbour Trust, will also finance dredging work at the harbour, which has seen a growth in the inshore fishing fleet and watersports enthusiasts.

It is expected that the Dunbar RNLI all-weather lifeboat will return to the port which will reduce response times and provide “enhanced search and rescue capability”.

Stuart Turnbull, chairman of Dunbar Harbour Trust, said: “In providing this funding, East Lothian Council has demonstrated a confidence in the Harbour Trust and in the future of Dunbar, and in doing so they have also demonstrated remarkable vision and imagination.”

Councillor Paul McLennan, council leader, said the harbour the potential to increase its revenue and popularity in the coming years.

He said: “Successful completion of this project will further open up the harbour to many more users.”
