Hash grower invited police into his home

A CANNABIS farmer who invited the police into his home escaped jail yesterday.

Alistair Murphy grinned and gave a thumbs up sign as he walked free from Livingston Sheriff Court.

The 28-year-old was caught with six cannabis plants and a stash of tablets after he invited officers into his home in Bridgend, West Lothian.

He claimed the drugs were to share with his friends at the T in the Park rock festival, the court was told.

John Barclay, prosecuting, said police went to Murphy’s house late at night looking for someone unconnected with the drugs bust. Mr Barclay said: “He answered the door and police asked if they could search the property for this person. He co-operated – and police found a cannabis cultivation in the main bedroom.”

Murphy earlier pleaded guilty to producing cannabis and possessing the class B drug and BZP. He was fined £540 and ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work in the community.
